How to budget for your wedding flowers

It is important to prioritise your wedding flowers

Your wedding flowers will be one of the most expensive elements and investments you make on your wedding day. They set the tone, create the atmosphere and bring to life and add colour to your wedding vision. As soon as you have set your date and found your venue, you should begin looking for your florist / event design firm to begin planning your floral landscape. Planning early to ensure that your florist/design firm is involved with setting the theme and colour palette for your wedding day.

Love details, beautiful spaces and luxury tablescapes?

Understanding your flower budget is essential when planning your wedding day. We suggest as you begin to plan, noting what is important to you, where you want to focus your main wedding purchases. Many couples create large guests lists, book expensive venues, amazing photographers, using their budget up before even considering all the pretty they want to bring to their wedding day, including their wedding flowers. Their budget is all used up and their dreams of a fabulous wedding with oodles of details have flown out the window.

Being realistic with your floral budget will help you understand what you will receive and how far your budget will stretch.

Industry standard not what it used to be!

The industry standard has always been that you a lot 10% of your overall wedding budget towards your wedding flowers. Meaning that a couple with a $85,000 wedding should assume their florals will be in the $8500.00 range. However, if you have a high expectations and flowers are a big priority for your wedding day, then you really should consider and allocate 20% towards your wedding flowers. $8500 is not the same as it was two years ago. We here at Sue Gallo Designs as we handle all things pretty, suggest couples invest up to 25% towards their flowers and decor. This includes your wedding flowers, signage, table top details such as fine linen, charger plates, candle decor, table numbers, paper products and even furniture rentals.

It is important to remember that this is just a guide line. Everyone prioritise flowers differently. Some love flowers and have to have them everywhere, while others, only have them because they need too. Then there are those couples who want a lovely day, and flowers are just as important as the celebration they are hosting.

Be realistic!

I can not stress this enough. You need to be realistic with how far your budget will stretch. So, if you have a 300 guest wedding, a large bridal party of 14, want flowers at the church, and everywhere at the hall - a $5000 flower budget isn’t going to be enough.
